Justin Payton Hooker, a 21-year-old from Dalton, Georgia, was convicted as the shooter in the premeditated murder of 27-year-old Kenneth "Kenny" Eugene Bunn on March 15, 2020. Alongside his girlfriend Nadya Catherine Swartz (also 21, from Crandall, Georgia), Hooker lured Bunn—a former boyfriend of Swartz—to a secluded spot near the Conasauga River under the false pretense of reconciliation. During an ensuing argument, Hooker fired four shots from a revolver he had recently purchased, including a fatal head wound, killing Bunn on the riverbank.
